Workshop Description

You're stuck in traffic horns blasting and radios blaring. Tension builds as you look around to see nothing but highway. Yet you long to see wild flowers or a remote beach with pelicans flying close to the waves. What is this longing? Why do we feel it as if it points to a hole in the very fabric of our being? We feel that way because it does. The longing is a call for us to restore our grounding within the natural world that had nourished us for hundreds of thousands of years and is now lost from our daily lives. Our separation from nature is at the heart of the health crisis, social unrest and threats to the environment that are so prominent in the world today. We must reconnect to heal.

Fortunately activities such as holistic gardening, walking meditations, even flower arranging can create that reconnection. During this weekend of the vernal equinox we explore a more intimate relationship with our food, nature's rhythms and the gentle flow of our life force as we spend time in the IONS permaculture garden putting what we learn into concrete practice.

Brenda Sanders

A scientist by training and inclination Dr. Brenda Sanders has a BA from Wesleyan University, a PhD from the University of Delaware and did Post Doctoral Work at Duke University. She was a tenured professor of Biological Sciences at California State University until 1998 where she taught undergraduates and graduates students in cellular and molecular biology, and environmental physiology. She has 20 years of corporate experience and has been business management consultant since 2003. In 1997 she had an unexpected awakening into unity consciousness (nonduality) which redefined her life and instantly altered fundamental aspects of her personality. It also led her to a starkly different view of life which she firmly believes made it possible for her to overcome a life threatening illness. After more than a decade of integration and spiritual maturation from her spiritual awakening she has developed an approached to life that is informed by biology and the natural environment to bring continual connection and insight into our lives. She is committed to showing others a glimpse of the higher levels of consciousness that bring fulfillment, joy and purpose into our lives and transforms us into the awakened leaders that are needed in this time of great change.

Dr. Sanders has over 25 years of experience in academic research and over 100 publications, patients and presentations. She has garnered numerous research awards, has served on national and international scientific committees, professional and editorial boards and was involved in the start up of two companies. She has held senior executive positions in several international environmental consulting firms and consults with international companies in the areas of business management, strategic planning and marketing strategy.
