The Ecology of Awakening

The Ecology of Awakening is an invitation to re-story ourselves back into the living Earth community in order to awaken our unique gifts and more fully participate in the extraordinary cultural and planetary transformation of our time. The aim of these journeys is to support a shift in consciousness away from what is conditioned and separate, into what is ever-evolving and connected to all Life. By remembering our place within the unfolding fabric, we become more adept at listening and responding to the way Life continuously evokes us forward.

Our underlying premise is that Life is self-organizing and knows what it’s doing. As Cosmologist Brian Swimme says, “Take hydrogen and leave it alone for 13.7 billion years and it turns into rosebushes, giraffes and humans.” By aligning with this emergent creative force, we unlock our waiting potential and support our individual and collective ability to live in a more conscious and mutually enhancing way with all Life. Throughout all three programs we will utilize deep nature connection, dreamwork, sit spots, bird language, council, listening mediation and other time-tested processes that usher us towards the inner and outer mystery that beckons.

Weekend Ecology of Awakening

This weekend will be held in Bolinas at the Commonweal Garden July 20 - 21, 2013, a unique permaculture farm surrounded by the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Want more! Join Kerry, James, and others for a deep dive into the year-long Ecology of Awakening Program with the Regenerative Design Institute. The Ecology of Awakening is an invitation to remember our natural inheritance as an intricate part of the larger unfolding web of life. The opportunity is to begin to shift our center of gravity: out of what is conditioned and separate into what is ever becoming and connected to all life. Through intimate and conscious encounters – with each other, our own inner impulses and with the larger earth community that awaits – we will learn to listen and respond to the way life continually evokes us forward.

The opportunity of this yearlong program is to support the sustained and embodied shift necessary to meet this extraordinary moment of planetary transformation. Through the strong container of an intimate village, set within a variety of spectacular California ecosystems – including rolling coastal hills, rugged canyons, oak woodlands, redwood groves and desert landscapes – we will create a vibrant ecology that inspires and enhances both individual and group unfoldment. Weaving group process and deep nature immersion, each experience will inform and guide the next, supporting us in staying attuned to the unique movement that seeks to express through each of us.

The three part series will unfold as a whole: beginning with the Cosmological, to the Earth and Nature Awareness, and finally into the Personal. Through the strong container of a virtual village, group and individual reflection and suggested “homework” with nature connection practices, we will explore what it is to listen and respond to this creative force and how it beckons each one of us. The On-Line Course includes the Introduction on Tues, June 25, as well as 3 sessions on Tuesdays in September: Sept 10, Sept 17, and Sept 24, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm PDT.

Part 1: Cosmological Connection - Sept 10

On the first session of our 3-part series, we will explore who we are in our deepest essence as an inherent part of the 13.7 billion year unfolding and why this is not only relevant but essential to take in as we look toward moving forward in a new way. We will send you away with readings, suggestions, and practices as to how to deepen into this realization as the foundation to all we will explore.

Part 2: Nature Connection - Sept 17

In part two we will immerse ourselves in a discussion about deep nature connection and offer core practices and routines as a way of grounding the work in individual experience. Our goal is to re-story ourselves, collectively, into the wild. By orienting and attuning to the earth and our senses, we support our ability to move beyond our personal and cultural borders in order to discover our deepest belonging with all that is evoked and reflected by the larger web of life.

Part 3: Personal Connection - Sept 24

Our final session of the series is devoted to the personal and how our way forward takes root through our day-to-day lives and communities. We will look at how to recognize and work with our conditioning as we open to what is innate and ever unfolding within each one of us. Drawing from biologically based somatic work, we will provide you with practical tools to support the edges you will likely face as you are ushered beyond the safe shores of the familiar into something more vibrant, authentic and life sustaining.

In the end you will walk away with practices and suggestions to support you in listening and responding to the way Life continuously evokes us forward and to participating more fully during these changing times.

Co-Director - Regenerative Design Institute, Ecology of Leadership

James Stark, M.A., F.E.S., is the co-director of the Regenerative Design Institute (RDI). He co-founded and co-directs the Ecology of Leadership program and is a senior trainer in the 3-year, full-time Regenerative Design and Nature Awareness training program, preparing young global community leaders for the “Great Turning” of our era. James has committed his life to exploring how we – ourselves, our communities, and our species – might move as quickly as possible back into harmony with who we are and the natural world. He considers the programs at RDI a nursery for growing visions of the new era, and providing skills and tools to bring the visions to life. For decades, James dedicated himself to community visioning and organizing in West Marin – during which he co-founded the following organizations, among others: * West Marin Growers Group (WMGG), which was created to ensure food security in Marin County. WMGG grew into the 5013c, Marin Organic, which introduced the Marin Organic Food Label and hosts the West Marin Farmers Market.* Waste Free Now, which is committed to West Marin becoming waste free and hosts the innovative annual Recycle Circus including a "Stuff Exchange" for people to redistribute community resources.* KWMR "Watershed Radio", which is a licensed 501c3 community radio station in the tenth year of providing a voice for West Marin residences and heard around the world live through web casting. * CLAM - Community Land Trust Association of Marin, an affordable ecological housing land trust (5013c) created to provide affordable housing in the face of increasing gentrification. James’ years working with visioning led him to an interest in exploring the inner world and to earn a master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Like the natural systems and patterns that guide permaculture, his work now is to help others explore the inner patterns that affect how visions become reality. He believes that creating a loving, peaceful inner world provides the soil for the seeds of our world visions to grow.

Kerry Brady

Kerry Brady, MA, SEP, mentors others in awakening to their essential nature and to following its natural movement and inherent wisdom. She has over 20 years of experience in transformational modalities including psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Jin Shin Jyutsu, bodywork, authentic movement, nature based practices and vision quests. Her deepest informant, however, is the wisdom gleaned through the unfolding of her own spiritual path. Kerry’s greatest love is in being with others as they shed limiting stories, identities, and patterns and open to what naturally wants to bloom. Kerry has served as faculty at Animas Valley Institute and the California Institute of Integral Studies where she and Brian Swimme co-teach Nature and Eros – an exploration into what it is to live in participatory engagement within a living universe and in more authentic alignment with the cultural and ecological shift of our time. Her nature based retreats invite a more intimate engagement with all of life, seamlessly weaving the personal, ecological and cosmological aspects of our being into one fluid whole.
